This new introductory textbook provides thirteen self-contained chapters, each covering an important topic in engineering systems modeling and simulation, with end-of-chapter problems. The text includes topics such as linear and nonlinear dynamical systems, continuous-time and discrete-time systems, stability theory, numerical methods for solution of ODEs, PDE models, feedback systems, optimization, regression, and more, with an introduction to each topic before delving deeper. As systems become more complex, the author includes a single chapter on complex networks including small-world and scale-free networks, a unique advancement for textbooks within modeling and simulation. Aimed at engineering students studying systems or robotics, the book can also be used in mathematical modeling courses, offering in-depth material on MATLAB simulation and appendices with brief reviews of linear algebra, real analysis, and probability theory. The topics in this book are timeless fundamentals. The goal is to provide a self-contained introduction to each of the topics so that students are prepared for more advanced study of one or more of the topics.
